Mmm, La Cave du Fromager was an absolutely delicious discovery nestled in the charm of Old Town. I had turned to Yelp for foodie recommendations knowing that I'd be heading to Nice for work and this was a 'must try.' I called after work one night hoping to secure a reservation for one and, I did! An hour later, I was seated and ready to enjoy my first glass of wine (btw, all glasses of wine are 7euros and paired nicely with your order).

To start, I tried the caramelized foie gras from gers and sourdough brioche with Jame's chutney paired with a glass of Vinoceros Ombre du soir. The flavor paring was complex, interesting, unique and surprisingly delicious.

I then opted for a main course of chicken Wellington with porcini mushrooms, truffle mash, beans from the countryside and jus, paired with a crisp white.

Overall, the wine, the ambiance, the food was all delicious and delightful. I'm glad I dined here and discovered it on Yelp!

If you enjoy cheese, eat here! I had a very pleasant experience at the Cave du Fromager. The servers were friendly and gave great recommendations for both food and wine pairings.

The restaurant is very unique as it is situated in an old wine cellar. Great atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious food!

In case it is not obvious, this place has cheese in just about every dish. If you don't like cheese then I probably would not dine here.

I was probably most looking forward to this meal, and it ended up being a disappointment.

We were able to get a reservation same day we arrived in Nice and I was thrilled! Upon arriving to the restaurant we were seated immediately.

We began looking over the menu, waited and did not receive service after two other parties arrived and received drinks. Slightly frustrated, we called to our waiter and they served us wine. After serving wine, they told us they were out of a few menu items, one specifically being the beef that my husband wanted to try. It was strange that the restaurant sold out of beef and we were the first to arrive at 7:00PM.

We proceeded to order the Sea Bass and the Tariflette. Shortly after the waiter took the remaining order from the other tables. Our food came out and it was delicious! Very rich and very tasty.

But only 10 minutes later did the other parties food come out and it was the beef. My husband was very frustrated because that was the meal he wanted to try and upon arriving we were told it was sold out.

Lastly, after we received our meal, no one came by to offer us another glass of wine or asked us how the meal was.  We were simply told to go upstairs to pay.

The service was strange and seemed biased.

Such a let down because we were so excited to try this establishment.

The fiance and I had a wonderful time here. We were able to get last minute reservations for an early dinner. We were seated in one of the cellar rooms. It was dark, a little cold, but romantic! There are several steps so be careful when you're walking down to that area. There was a gentlemen who took a really bad tumble while we were down there. Bring cash as they do not take credit card. Thankfully we had some cash on us.

    We ordered:
ASSORTED CHEESES served with HOMEMADE BREAD - So delicious! We asked for extra servings of their bread and spread.
GNOCCHI - Yum! Very cheesy. It got to be a little too rich for me at the end, but this was good and very filling.
CHICKEN - This was a-okay. Not too flavorful for us.

Overall we had a good experience. I'd want to come back for their fondue as it seems that is the most popular main!

Interesting setting in underground cheese cave. Our dinner here was delicious and their wine pairing was fantastic.  Definitely a must stop for cheese-lovers when visiting Nice
